HELLO PARTY PEOPLE!

I am going to be cliché and cry into the interwebs -- How is it May?! And, how is it already time to start tying this epic program together?

And yet it is. Here are your reminders and updates:

PLAYLISTS - Playlists are DUE THIS FRIDAY, May 6th. Thus far, I have received only 2 playlists. We also still need an AMV playlist sign-up; if anyone is willing to put that together please comment below.

If you need an extension, email me at vidparty[dot]wiscon[at]gmail[dot]com.

NOTIFYING VIDDERS - I'd like to provide a belated clarification on notifying vidders.

1. Make an effort to notify using the means available--email, tumblr, etc.

2. All vids are eligible to be screened WITHOUT explicit permission if they are publicly available for streaming or download online.

3. Vids that are not available for streaming or download by the author, we try to exhaust all avenues of seeking permission and at last resort, we make a judgment call on how public it is for screening. Even if we decide that a vid is public (e.g. vids well-known and frequently discussed in fannish circles), we will never upload it.

4. A vid that is only available behind a friends-lock is (for our purposes) not publicly available.

5. MOST IMPORTANTLY: Submit playlists even if you were unable to reach a vidder. If that is the case, simply let us know which vidders you were unable to reach.

More updates on subtitle committee, sing-a-long, etc. coming soon!

Hi everyone,

We are in need of a handful of volunteers for two activities which need to happen over the next few weeks, before Wiscon.

1. Permission wrangling

We try to contact vidders and get their permission to use their vids for our party. Your job, if you are up for it, is to leave comments on vidders' DW/LJ/etc, telling them about the vid party and checking that it's OK for us to show their vid. We'll provide a "form letter" that you can cut and paste, so you don't have to come up with your own words. When they respond, you update our spreadsheet to say you've got permission.

You will need: DW and LJ accounts (or OpenID login), access to Google spreadsheets
Your time commitment: 1 hour or more

2. Subtitling

This year we're having a "singalong" show at which the vids will be subtitled. We're going to contact the vidders and ask them either to submit subtitle files OR grant permission for us to create the subtitles on their behalf. If they want us to create the subtitles, that's where you come in. You'll be given instructions, but in short, it's a text file with a certain format which is pretty easy to create.

You will need: VLC or other vid playing software that supports subtitles, any text editing software
Your time commitment: about 1 hour per vid you subtitle

You don't need to be attending to volunteer. This is something that anyone can do, whether they're attending Wiscon or not. So if you'd like to support the Wiscon Vid Party in a way that's purely online, this is a great opportunity.

If you'd like to help out with either of these jobs, please leave us a comment below, in the following format:

Email: (your email address -- or let us know if you prefer to PM it to us)
Permission-seeking: Y/N
Subtitling: Y/N
How many hours can you volunteer? (1 or more)
