It's time for Premieres! Premieres time! OH EM GEE! We cannot wait to see what you all come up with.
WisCon 47 Vid Party premieres with completed subtitles are due Monday, May 22nd at 11:59 PM CST via the Premiere Submission Form. (Can't make subtitles yourself? No problem—but please get your vid in by Monday, May 15th.) For more details, see below.
You can submit up to two vids to the Premieres vidshow; if you have additional premiering vids that you'd like us to consider, we may be able to place them in themed playlists or the singalong or dancealong.
If you need an extension on this deadline for any reason, please contact us at vidparty.wiscon@gmail.com.
What WisCon Premieres look like: genres, themes, and viewing context
We welcome fanvids in all genres and from all traditions of fannish video production, so long as they have some connection to WisCon's focus on social justice and speculative fiction. The general rule is that your vid should be engaged with at least one of a) speculative fiction or b) social justice: a vid about women characters on a historical show, a vid about how robots are cool, or a vid about racial justice in scifi would all be welcome at the Vid Party. If you're not sure if your vid would work at WisCon, feel free to ask us! You can reach us at vidparty.wiscon@gmail.com.
We welcome vids from first-time vidders and first-time-at-WisCon vidders. We have a really great audience that loves to explore new work and new perspectives!

How to submit your vid:
Submit your vid via the Premiere Submission Form.
This form will ask you for a link to your vid file so that we can download it to play it at the vid party, as well as metadata and content notes. There is also a space to include subtitles or to tell us you'll be sending a subtitle file later.
We strongly recommend that you make your own subtitles. Because all vids at the Vid Party are shown with subtitles, subtitles become part of the viewing experience. How to time the subtitles, where to break the lines of the song, and which lyrics to include are all artistic decisions that you will have a better sense of than our subtitle crew. (Our subtitle crew is very very talented — if you can't or don't want to make your subtitles, your vid is in good hands! But you may hear a different word in the lyrics than we see on a lyrics site.)
We will confirm your submission within a week. If you don't hear from us within that time, please reach out to us via email at vidparty.wiscon@gmail.com in case there were problems with the form.
More information about our content notes:
The Vid Party provides content notes for common triggers as an accessibility measure. Our warnings are intended to help attendees manage their risks. These warnings are not intended as a rating or censorship measure.
We will post warnings (behind a cut) to this community before the party, and make them available in printed form at the party. We will also provide more information via email by request.
We warn for a broad list of psychological and physical triggers.
Psychological triggers
We warn for: sexual coercion; sexual assault; abusive relationships; suicide or self-harm; blood; needles or medical triggers; gore or body horror; dead bodies; drug or alcohol use; choking; torture; hanging; gun violence; police brutality; imprisonment; institutional violence; nazis, swastikas, burning crosses, KKK, or other hate symbols; genocide; slurs; racialized violence; and gendered violence.
We do not warn for: nudity; sexual activity; non-heteronormative sexuality; general violence including action sequences, car chases, martial arts, etc; explicit language; other "mature" themes.
Physical triggers
We warn for: extremely fast edits; stutter edits; shaky cam; and flashing or strobe effects.
We do not warn for: incidental bright lights (e.g. explosions). Also, vids are by their nature bright and fast moving, so we only warn for those that are particularly so. These evaluations may be made by the Vid Party crew, by individual premiering vidders, or by playlist creators, so our definitions of fast edits may vary slightly.
We also have a free-form notes section for additional information.

Other notes:
- Premiering vids must be premieres. That is, vids should not be posted online or shown at other conventions before they premiere at WisCon.
- Premiering vids should generally be less than five minutes long, though exceptions can be made in some circumstances.
- You don't need to attend WisCon to submit a premiere: we have terrific premieres from non-attending vidders every year.
- We can accept vids in any format that will play in VLC. We recommend you do a high quality export for the premiere itself - no file size is too large for us. If we see issues in your vid file, we'll let you know so you can re-export and re-upload.
- Premiering vids will be shown with subtitles at the Vid Party. If you don't make your own subtitles, our team will make them for you, but we'll need extra time to do so. Subtitles are displayed overlayed on the bottom edge of your vid, like subtitles on a film, and may cover any text or titles in that area of the screen.
- We distribute a list of content notes for all vids shown at WisCon. When you submit your premiere, you will see a list of ticky boxes for various content notes (see list below); the content notes will be displayed on paper outside the vid party as well as posted on this community.
- We typically discuss premiering vids in a panel at WisCon, with several panelists as well as audience/discord participation. This year, the panel will be online on Saturday at 1 PM Madison time.
- Premiering vids should be posted online after the Vid Party, so that we can link to them. We ask that vids be posted within about one week of when they are shown at the Vid Party (ideally by Friday, June 2nd).
