Hi all! We're so excited about the hybrid WisCon Vid Party we're planning this year, and we're looking for help to make it the best it can be. We need assistance with several different tasks, including:
SubtitlingThe WisCon Vid Party airs all vids with subtitles, which means we have to create subtitles for any vids that don't have subtitles already. Even if you can only subtitle one vid, that helps!
However, we'd like additional volunteers to assist with:
- Basic subtitling: if you can create a subtitle file that we can play in VLC, we can send you a list of vids to caption. You can do this by using a dedicated program (e.g. Jubler, Aegisub), using a non-linear editor and exporting the subs separately (e.g. Da Vinci Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut, Vegas), or using a text document template and putting in the timing by hand.
- Subtitling for difficult videos: some video types are hard for some of our subtitlers to work on; for example, an older video codec might not open in Jubler or Da Vinci Resolve. If you're good at troubleshooting video issues, we'll send you just the files that gave other subtitlers trouble!
- Subtitling for complex subtitle situations: recent WisCon Vid Parties have included vids that already contain embedded subtitles (for non-English language sources) or embedded text (comics vids, some styles of youtube vids, etc). These may require coloring or animating subtitles to make them visible, or editing the subtitles to be visible below the main image. If you know how to make and export vtt subtitles or other animated subtitles, or if you're comfortable editing video and subtitles to air the subtitles below the video, we'd really appreciate your assistance. If you can only subtitle a few vids, but you can handle competing text information, let us know and we'll send these specific vids your way.
If you can assist, please comment here or email vidparty dot wiscon at gmail.com.
Content Notes ScreeningThe WisCon Vid Party produces or solicits content notes for all the vids we screen. We have a fairly detailed lists of content notes - for example, we list strobing or flashing effects, extremely fast edits, stutter edits, and shaky cam as separate content notes. Filling these out for all vids means that we need volunteers to screen vids in advance of the Vid Party and ticky the appropriate tickies.
sasha_feather, who usually organizes this process, is not available this year, so we'll need some additional help!
If you can assist, please comment here or email vidparty dot wiscon at gmail.com.
Suggesting Vids or FandomsIf there's a vid or two that you think would be perfect for WisCon, let us know via the
Vid Suggestion Form.
In this form, you can suggest vids for three different kinds of playlists:
- Know of a vid that has you singing along every time? Suggest it for the singalong.
- Know of a vid that has you chair dancing whenever you watch it? Suggest it for the dancealong.
- Thinking about that vid that WisCon needs to see? We'll try to fit it into a the show.
If there are fandoms that you're particularly hoping to see vids for, please let us know in the comments here! I love vid searching and I will see what I can find.
