Hear ye! Hear ye! My name is metatxt supersplice, and I present "Free Thoughts on the Programming of the WisCon Vid Party!"

*record scratch*

(whispers)...oh Hamilton isn't here to make a case for the VID-OLUTION? *sigh* fine, I guess this part can wait until next time...

PLAYLIST PARTIERS AND WONDERERS OF WISCON!

We want as many people as possible to be involved in the programming for the party, and we prefer shorter blocks of programming rather than long vidshows. So, just like last year, we would like to invite you to curate a themed vid playlist (i.e. a short/mini vid show) that's 10-25 minutes in length, or 3-6ish vids long, to play at the party. Curators choose a theme and pick 3-6ish vids that fit the theme. If you're attending WisCon, you can introduce your playlist with a description of your theme (if you want!); if you aren't attending, you can write a little introduction and we will read it for you.

Here’s a list of playlists from previous years if you want to get an idea of how this has worked in the past.

For planning purposes, please let us know by commenting below or emailing vidparty.wiscon at gmail.com if you are planning to create a playlist.

We are open to any themed playlists that connect in some way to Wiscon’s feminist goals of exploring gender, race, sexuality, class, and disability in science fiction and fantasy, including a wide-ranging definition of what those things mean. The feminism might be in the sources themselves, in the argument or narrative of the vids, in the characters the vids choose to focus on, in the progression of the playlist, in the music chosen for the vids, or anywhere! It might be obvious or subtle. All of that is fine! We don’t want to limit you: if you think the theme and playlist work from a feminist angle, we’d love to see them. We welcome the inclusion of videos from any remix / fan video tradition, and we would especially like to see playlists include vids that have been made in the last year and vids for non-western sources of all kinds. Your vids do not have to be limited to sources that strictly fit definitions of science fiction or fantasy. Collaborations welcome, if you want to team up with someone else to create a playlist.

If you create a playlist, we will need:

• a title for your playlist (for example, last year Jon Cole named their playlist "Capitalism Is Not a Joke." and [personal profile] cyborganize named hers "Vidding as Feminist Technology")
• for each vid: the title, vidder, fandom, length, and a link where we can download a copy
• the overall length of your playlist (minimum 10 minutes, maximum 25 minutes)

If you make a playlist, we will ask you to:

• NOTIFY THE VID CREATORS to make sure they have no objection to their vid being screened (if you would prefer we do this, we can, but let us know with enough lead time!)
• let us know whether the vids in your list require warnings (we can help you with this too)
• help us to get or make subtitle files for the vids in your list (if possible)

You might have to make edits to your planned playlist if one of the vids on it is already going to be screened in another playlist!

We would like to gather playlists as soon as possible. Please get them to us by Friday May 6th at the latest! Email your playlist info to vidparty.wiscon at gmail.com.

Please note: this deadline is 10 days earlier than Premieres!

And once more, let us know in the comments below or by email if you are planning to curate a playlist!

Also feel free to comment below or contact us if you want to toss around potential ideas, suggest themes that other people might want to curate (if you don’t want to create the playlist yourself), or chat about vids that would be great to see at Wiscon!
(will be screened)
(will be screened if not validated)
