Partial vid show on YouTube

A kind and industrious WisCon member, [personal profile] laurel, found which vid show vids are available on Youtube, and assembled them into a playlist. This makes for an easy way to experience a partial wiscon vid party!

Links to vids & please leave feedback

Hi all,
I added links to the vids to the spreadsheet that has the warnings and program:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XbrFVFFtKDar0OJCRmI9mi0F1MfxNH4NwclhzNSH6eg/edit?usp=sharing

Most but not all vids are publicly available.

Please use these links to leave feedback for vidders! Feedback can really mean a lot.

These are creator links and are public and shareable.

Tonight's show! details

Please note: tonight's stream will be moving to ZOOM. If you follow the link to Vid Party from this morning's WisCon email you will be directed to our updated streaming details. No Discord participation required!

Our vids were too hot for YouTube to handle.

Though one playlist is titled "Unmute Yourself," it is figurative and not a request 😉

You do not need a webcam or microphone to watch tonight's show.

Here are the content notes / Warnings for tonight's show, this link is public.

Wiscon 44 Vid Party: Playlist Signups

We are calling for themed playlists for the WisCon 44 Vid Party! Themed playlists are due Monday, April 20th.

We would like to invite you to curate themed vid playlists (10-25 minutes long) to play at the party. As a vid playlist curator, you will choose a theme and pick vids that fit the theme. You are welcome to write a short introduction, and we will include that content in online and printed programs.

We are open to playlists that connect in some way to WisCon’s goals of exploring gender, race, sexuality, class, disability, and other social justice issues in speculative fiction. The social justice concept might be in the sources themselves, in the argument or narrative of the vids, in the characters the vids choose to focus on, in the progression of the playlist, in the music chosen for the vids, or somewhere else! We don’t want to limit you: if you think the theme and playlist work for WisCon, we’d love to see them. We welcome the inclusion of videos from any remix / fan video tradition, and we would especially like to see playlists that include vids for non-western sources of all kinds. Your vids do not have to be limited to sources that strictly fit definitions of science fiction or fantasy.

Next steps:

If you would like to make a playlist, please let us know in the comments below. If you already have a theme planned, include that in your comment - vidders may want to submit premieres to your playlist. Once you have completed your playlist, submit it to vidparty.wiscon@gmail.com.

If you have a vid in process that's a perfect match for a playlist mentioned below, please comment to let the playlist curator know! The curator will need to include this vid on their playlist when they submit (list the download link as "premiering vid"), and the vidder will need to note that this vid is for a playlist in the "notes" section of the premiere submission form when they submit the vid.

WisCon 44 Vid Party: Call for Premieres!

WisCon 44 Vid Party premieres are due Monday, May 11th at 11:59 PM CST via the Premiere Submission Form. For more details, see below.

If you need an extension on this deadline for any reason, please contact us at vidparty.wiscon@gmail.com and we'll see what we can do.

It helps us plan other parts of the Vid Party if we have a ballpark idea of how many premieres we'll have, what fandoms they're in, and how long they are. So if you are thinking of making a premiere, please let us know any details you have in the Premiere Interest Form by April 20th. (Got your idea late and missed this deadline? No worries - you can still submit a vid! Didn't end up finishing? No worries - this form is not a commitment. This is just to help us with our planning.)

Otherwise Award Auction donations & commissions

Sumana in purple shirt and Superman-branded pajama pants, onstage at WisCon auction a few years agoHi all! Two years ago I started a bit of discussion about how vidding and a fundraiser that I emcee could cross-connect, and I'm following up on that now.

I love the Vid Party and I am one of the people who runs the Otherwise Award (formerly Tiptree) Auction. The Otherwise Literary Award encourages the exploration & expansion of gender, and holds a 90-minute fundraising auction at WisCon each year -- usually on Saturday night, and earlier than the Vid Party. I'm the auctioneer.

We're seeking donations of objects to be auctioned -- handcrafts, books, memorabilia, games, and art, especially with scifi/fantasy or feminist elements, are welcome. And I would personally love to get some donations this year of types I haven't usually seen, such as DVDs or CDs of feminist media, or tea.

But I request two things of this community specifically:

  • If any vidders would like to contribute art commissions, we could do what other fanvidding auctions do, e.g., the winning bidder gets to suggest what they like and you make a custom vid for them (you can specify constraints like fandoms, genres, length, deadline, etc.). If you're interested in doing this, leave a comment below by May 15th.
  • If any of you own physical media you despise, I could potentially raise money by promising to destroy it, live, onstage. In 2016 the audience paid me something like USD$130 to take a hammer and smash a "Pilates for Weight Loss" DVD. If you're interested in doing this, please leave a comment below by May 15th (although I will update this instruction once we have the auction donation online form going for this year).

(Now that the auction is only 90 minutes, I'm not going to try to show vids during it, despite me considering that in 2018.)

Thanks!
