Hi everyone!

This is a catchall post for vid and amv recommendations. If you ever see a vid and think "ooh, we should show that at the vid party!", drop the link in comments to this post.

At minimum, we need the download link, the vidder's handle, the title of the vid, the song, and the fandom(s). If you are so moved to tell us why you like the vid so much, please do (and I suggest telling the vidder why you liked their work, too).

We can't promise everything will make it into the party, but we also want to cast a wide net, so feel free to point others who might be interested to this post (and this comm) at any time.

Thanks!

ETA: Per [personal profile] damned_colonial in comments,

I guess if you don't have all that information, post anyway -- but the more the better!

Maybe we should say something about categories too? We're particularly interested in vids in the following categories:

* Vids with a message (please tell us what you think the message is)
* Singalong vids
* New vids (posted after June 1st 2010)

So if you're reccing something in any of those categories, please let us know, as it will help us with playlist planning.

I can't watch this just yet, but this is a potential one for "vids with a message":

Rec: http://forthwritten.dreamwidth.org/64518.html
Vid: http://happydork.dreamwidth.org/427282.html

"a video about UK media representation of mental health, and depression in particular"

"It highlights the cumulative effects of these discourses - taken in isolation, these messages might not be so terrible, but what is damaging is the way they're repeated and, through this repetition, reinforce each other and make it possible for these discourses to have such power in UK culture."

I won't be attending but I can never resist making my thoughts on yaoi recommendations known. starting with the extremely obvious:

Supersmart by Cesperanza, SGA (and SGA fandom), Supersmart by The Headstones, which is a celebration of women, femininity and female agency in Stargate: Atlantis, and ultimately (I think) ends in the message that the ladies in SGA fandom should all recognize how awesome they are. though I might be misinterpreting a bit, haha.

Women's Work by sisabet and Luminosity, SPN, Violet by Hole (scroll down the page until you get there), which is a really great examination of the treatment of women in Supernatural with the message that (as I understand it) maybe female viewers "should learn how to say no" to the continual degradation of female characters in Supernatural.

How Much Is That Geisha In The Window by [personal profile] lierdumoa, Firefly, "Boyd's Journey" by Damon Albarn and Michael Nyman on the Ravenous (1999) Original Soundtrack; "How Much ... Window?" performed by Adam Baldwin, Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres in the "Firefly Extended Gag Reel." the message is simple and succinct: it's not okay to take an entire culture for your worldbuilding and then write people whose culture it is out of the narrative.

Star Trek Dance Floor by [personal profile] sloanesomething, Star Trek XI, Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor by Flight of the Conchords. again, the message is short and sweet: there are not enough ladies in Star Trek.

I'm working off the assumptions that (a) you would prefer vids that center on women and (b) by "with a message" you don't mean the message "omg Character A is awesome!!!" or "omg Character A and Character B are MFEO!!!" though I could certainly provide many recommendations for vids along those lines. ;D
