Welcome back from Vid Party! Have you slept? I bet you could still sleep some more. But I know what you reaaaaaalllly want to do is watch ALL of the vids again and leave comments for our lovely vidders who premiered vids.

And then after that, maybe try a playlist or two, or three, or eleven...

Vid Party had a big year this year. Here are just a few things that made us say "WOW!":

- First year with a playlist for a Guest of Honor -- with 2(!) premieres!
- First year in the BIG room at WisCon, allowing far more people to attend than ever before
- And...a RECORD-BREAKING 19 PREMIERES!

As always, we had a fully subtitled show. You can download subtitles here. Thank you to [personal profile] runawaynun, [personal profile] violace, [personal profile] oyceter, and [personal profile] seekingferret and all of the vidders who subtitled their own vids.

We also had a phenomenal poster thanks to [personal profile] jackshoegazer

Special thanks to our entire Vid Party crew -- fans/viewers, vidders, playlist makers, subtitlers, warnings screeners, poster-makers, ConCom ambassadors, ConCom, SF3, and the Concourse.

... and now, please enjoy our show!

As promised, this is your (incredibly belated) post with this year's full list of Premieres and playlists. I apologize for the unanticipated delay.

We hope everyone enjoyed the show! If you missed any of it, treat yourself to the links below. We would love if you would leave comments for the vidders who made vids that gave you the feels, that made you think, or that made you want to try watching (or reading) something new. All of the vids this year were incredible and we can't thank you all enough for making Vid Party possible.

Shout Outs Thank you to everyone who premiered a vid, curated a playlist, subtitled our show, set-up the screening room, helped break-down the screening room, posted posters, MADE our poster -- hey there Jeremy! -- and attended our show.

Subtitles were provided by the respective vidders, or generously scripted by our amazing Subtitle Squad: [personal profile] runawaynun, [personal profile] violace, and [personal profile] seekingferret. BIG THANKS for subtitling our entire show (!)

You can download all subtitles here. Subtitles are grouped into easy to navigate playlist folders.

It's never too late to learn how to make vids! --because the only timeline that counts is the one in your video editor. As a follow-up to the absolutely amazing How-to-Vid panel moderated and run by [personal profile] thuviaptarth, there will be posts forthcoming with links and resources. So stay tuned!

Vidders and Viddees, Partiers and Partees, Enthusiasts of SF/F and Remix! We merrily present:

"The Party Of Our Lives"
a filk, sung to the tune of "The Story of Tonight"...

I may not fly to see the party!*
You may not drive to see the party!

But I will gladly vid the night!
But you should gladly vid the night!

And when the fangirls link our premieres…
And when the fangirls fave our premieres…

They’ll squee for shiny new delight!

Let’s have another vid tonight!
Let’s have another vid tonight!
Let’s have another vid tonight!

Raise a Vid to WisCon!
A Party that will live on year to year
No matter how chaotic
Raise a vid to the sing-a-long

Even if we get the lyrics wrong!
Singing the story of our night

Please vid a story for this night

Raise a glass to WisCon!
I think the show gets longer every year

Our squee will fight exhaustion

Let’s have another vid tonight!

Raise a vid to the Vid Party!

Even if this filk is weak
We’ll Vid the Party of our lives

Let’s Vid the Party of our lives
Raise a vid to WisCon
Let’s Vid the Party of our lives
Raise a vid to WisCon
Let’s Vid the Party of our lives
Please vid a story for —

WISCON VID PARTY

So that happened. I shamelessly (and poorly) filked the genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda… To further highlight his superior word mastery by botching his creation? No! To get your attention?! Well, yes. But also! Also, I know that you know, aliens, robots, mermaids, superheroes, dystopian monarchs, and revolutionaries all have a golden ticket to WisCon Vid Party. But, also invited are the feuding fathers of Broadway hip hop, the devoted fans of Cindi Mayweather, the codebreakers of Bletchley, the swooning eye-sex from film adaptations of classic 1950s lesbian pulp novels, and the yet-to-be-videographed stories from sf/f books. Let me further assure you still: this is not a comprehensive list.

We welcome all fanvids in all genres and from all traditions of fannish video production, so long as they have some connection to WisCon's focus on feminism and science fiction. WisCon defines feminism broadly, and we're interested in vids that engage with any aspect of gender, sexuality, race, disability, and/or class. We don’t want definitions to limit you; if you’re interested in WisCon’s themes and consider your vid to engage with these ideas, we’d love to have it at WisCon. We consider vid theme to be as relevant as source genre.

Each year we have some incredible premieres by experienced and newbie vidders. We would love to see your work at this year’s Vid Party!

And if your vid includes gorgeous shots of space, please send it our way. We are absolute trash for vids set in space. Some might even call us orbital debris.

PREMIERES ARE DUE MONDAY, MAY 16TH

* Uhhhhm, I’m totally flying to WisCon, but there’s not a lot of shared risk if I say, “hey I’m going to WisCon and also I lead our merry band of Vid Partiers. Please make a vid even if you’re not attending!” Also, there was the consideration of symmetry, yo.

PREMIERES! and playlists, as promised. We hope everyone enjoyed the show! And if you missed part of it, treat yourself to the vids below. This year’s premieres and playlists are absolutely STELLAR.

Thank You's

We’d like to thank this year’s Premiere-vidders [personal profile] brainwane, [personal profile] seekingferret, [personal profile] garrideb, and [personal profile] starlady for their amazing vids. A big thank you to all of the vidders we screened! Thanks to playlist curators and those who participated in the Sing Along poll. Extra big thanks to our set-up and break-down helpers: [personal profile] prozacpark, [personal profile] runawaynun, [personal profile] meganbmoore and [personal profile] lyssie.

I would personally like to thank the Vid Party crew [personal profile] were_duck, [personal profile] futuransky, and [personal profile] sasha_feather, as well as [personal profile] chaila and [personal profile] cyborganize for behind-the-scenes collaboration and help. And finally, we’d like to give a special shoutout to our subtitle volunteers, [personal profile] violace and [personal profile] angelikitten. If you’re looking at those two names thinking, “this show is quite long, how was everything subtitled with the help of only two volunteers?” a big reason is [personal profile] angelikitten who subtitled HALF of this year’s programming.

Subtitles

Speaking of subtitles—although many vidders provide SRT files along with their vids for download, this has been a relatively recent development and is not yet common practice. We are including the SRT files used during Vid Party for download alongside each listing. For subtitles to appear while the vid plays, you will need to give both files identical names (keeping their respective file extension) and store both files in the same folder. We recommend VLC for playback, but particularly if you are watching with subtitles.

Please note: not all vids are available for download. And a select few are not available for streaming or download (as noted below). The majority of vidders provide download links, which can be found on their Dreamwidth or Livejournal vid posts linked below. Most vids that available as streaming-only can be downloaded with the help of a 3rd party browser add-on.

Download ALL subtitle files. ◦ Individual playlist collections available below.

And finally — If you enjoy Vid Party, if you love Vid Party, it’s because of the vidders. Please take a minute to leave comments, particularly for those premiering vids!

Vidding, feminism, and science fiction: three great tastes that taste great together. Don't you think?

WisCon is a feminist science fiction convention held each May in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The WisCon Vid Party began in 2010, and 2012 will be the second year we accept premiere vids. For more information about WisCon and the vid party, see our general information post from last year. This year we'll be having more themed segments, but the basic outline is the same.

We are looking for premiere vids (never screened or posted online before) as well as for vids posted in the last year that you think are especially appropriate for WisCon.

Hi everyone! WisCon is fast approaching, so this is a reminder post for anyone who would like to submit a premiere fanvid/songvid/AMV to the WisCon Vid Party.

This year, for the first time, the WisCon Vid Party will include a premieres show, and we’re inviting vidders to submit new vids to be shown at the party, especially vids which address feminism or social justice, are science-fiction themed, or both. We are also happy to accept "nearly new" submissions -- vids you've posted online just this calendar year -- which we will include at the end of the Premieres show.

To submit your vid, just fill out the handy form!

We had originally set the submission deadline for April 1st, but since that is coming up so quickly we've decided to extend it to May 1st, with a “late submission” deadline of May 13th. (Please let us know if you intend to submit late.)

For more information about WisCon and the Vid Party, see our informational post. As always, if you have any questions, or if you'd like to volunteer to help us vid wrangle this year, please get in touch with us by emailing wiscon.vidparty@gmail.com or commenting on posts in this community.

Wiscon is an annual feminist science fiction convention held each May in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. The Wiscon Vid Party began in 2010, and starting in 2011 we will be accepting premiere vids for the first time. For more information about Wiscon and the vid party, see our general information post.

What are we looking for?

  • We welcome all fanvids in all genres and from all traditions of fannish video production.
  • As a premiere, your vid must never have been shown at a convention or posted online before.
  • Your vid should be no longer than 5 minutes in length.
  • Wiscon is a feminist science fiction convention, and we particularly encourage vids that engage with that theme, or with issues of gender, sexuality, race, disability, or class.
  • We especially welcome vids from fans who may never have submitted a vid to a convention before, or from newbie vidders.
  • You do not have to be attending Wiscon to submit a premiering vid!
  • We are also accepting 'nearly new' submissions of vids that have been posted publicly since Jan 1st 2011!

Deadlines

We have two deadlines for submissions:

Friday, April 1st, 2011 ETA: Sunday, May 1st, 2011: this is our "recommended deadline". We strongly encourage you to submit a vid by this date. All vids submitted by April May 1st will be included in the premieres show.

Friday, May 13th, 2011: this is our "extension deadline". We will accept last-minute vid submissions up until two weeks before the party, but can't promise to show them all. We might be overwhelmed with work, or might not have time to fit them into the schedule, or might not have time to work with you on problems, so the sooner you get your vid in (or at least let us know to expect it) the better!

There will be many reminder posts in the leadup to our deadlines, so follow [community profile] wiscon_vidparty, [community profile] wiscon, or [community profile] vidding if you want to be sure to see reminders. (We will also crosspost to [livejournal.com profile] wiscon and [livejournal.com profile] vidding.)

The vids will show on the evening of Friday 27th May, 2011, and will be posted online within a week of the show.
